Have you ever seen a category assigned to a book and wondered exactly what it meant? Or have you ever been in a bookstore looking for books by a particular author, and found them scattered in different category sections throughout the store – even books that were all part of the same series? You know how frustrating that is!
I found a cool website called Writing to Publish which is run by a group of writers on AOL. They’ve put together a handy - and large! – reference site that lists just about every kind of Category or Sub-Category for almost any kind of writing. Not only do they provide definitions, but also examples of books that fall into that category. To me, that’s the most useful part of the site!
My writing focuses on the Fantasy and Mystery genres, but a look into the sub-categories gives you an idea of just how broad the range is within these genres. A very useful site with a good links page to other resources – you’ll be reading for hours!
